One day trip to Wuxi - An old city in southern Jiangsu province

Impromptu trip turned adventurous and fun-filled.

We had gone pub crawling the night before. Although we didn't stay out that late, we had no time to plan a day's itinery and so we just went ahead and planned on the way.

Bought tickets at East Nanjing's ticketing office in the morning before heading to Shanghai Railway station to catch our 11.05am train. It was the cheaper but because it was the slow speed train. Cost us only 29RMB per pax.

It began to drizzle when we arrived, and we were haunted by a few very persistent tour guides to ask us to get a ride to some attractions for just 2rmb. We believed it was scam and didn't dare to take it because we were sure there is going to be hidden cost if we took up the offer. And so we ended up taking 2 separate cabs for the 6 of us. Each costing close to 60RMB to get us to Tai Lake's Sanguo City's CCTV Movie Film Base.

The tickets was only 40RMB for student price. Because PL and i did not bring ours, we had
to persuade the ticketing officer that we are all students. ( but i just realised my matric card was actually in my bag! =.=)

The place had free live shows for visitors to watch and several ancient and pretty buildings seen in many of the chinese movies. It was very hot and humid but luckily the place was big and quite spacious so it didn't seem to be very crowded. However, it started to pour heavily at around 3pm and we were all drenched and had to hide in a little hut selling stuffs. We bought a poncho each and left to continue exploring when the rain got lighter. 

As the rain was still persisting when we left the attraction, we ended up taking a black cab but the driver gave us a reasonable quote so we thought it was pretty worth it. We paid 70RMB to get to Nanchang temple cum street. We were glad the rain finally subsided when we reached the place. Starving as we were, we gobbled down 2 bowls of 鸭血粉丝 at the first eatery we see. As we moved further in, we got ourselves some grilled teppanyaki skewers like the enoki mushrooms, eggplant, corn, garlic oysters, and CRICKET!!!! I was gladi ate it, i did not have to consider much before eating it. In fact it was rather delicious!! I would have it again. We had the 酱拌面 together with the grilled food, and we even ordered a second round, now with more meat and a fish to share. We went past streets of more food! This place closes quite early though, i am not sure why but it seems like the place was not very crowded given that it was a sunday! We liked it though! :))) Got somemore meaty skewers and 大肠饭团 which was loaded with peanuts. Quite yummy lor..

Took a high speed train back to shanghai at around 8pm. Great one-day escapade! (:

I know it can be frustrating if you can't make up your mind between the three roasted meat stalls and four other dim sum stalls. They all look the same but you know surely one of those stalls is the famous one which your grandparents and parents grew up eating.  Today, I'd introduce to you one of the best dimsum and roast meats non-restaurant style, together with some new findings in the current People's Park Complex.  It has been a long while since I last wowed at the dimsum before me. The stall only displays a pathetic number of dishes in the glass cabinet as compared to Ho Kee which display a wide myriad of choices. Yet... 道记(Chop Hean Kuan) 's dimsums sells like hot cakes. The price range is not large, cheapest at 90c for items like the ugly looking yet tempting siew mai, egg tarts and 韭菜角, the most expensive item is 2 bucks for the 糯米鸡. The mini char siew bao was heaven. I seldom fancy this because it feels  often feels like eating marinated card board.

Jimoto-Ya (Singapore)

Sometimes, i wished there isn't so many new restaurants sprouting around our tiny island everyday (pocket is bleeding), but at times, i am exhilarated especially when something like Jimoto-Ya is in town! Thanks to one of Jimoto-Ya's sake supplier who strongly recommended the place, that i had to try it right away. And in a week, there goes 2 meals at Jimoto-Ya. I was there on a weekday afternoon and a weekend night respectively. Both experience were unique on its own yet similar in the right points.  From top: Ebi Shoyu Ramen Set (19 SGD), Curry Rice Set (19 SGD), Ebi Shio Ramen Set (19 SGD) Lunch and dinner menu are the same at the moment with ramen and rice sets taking the limelight. For lunch, i shared the above 3 sets with my 2 girlfriends who were as delighted as me to eat them the second the food was served. Tendon Kohaku's 2nd outlet!

Ever since I chanced upon Tendon Hokaku (even though I've read so much about it before that plus all the instagram spams on my wall) at its 1st outlet at Suntec, been missing it. Just that the queue can be quite a pain especially during the peak hours. So there's also peak periods for dining nowadays!  It's opening at Circular Road last week has caused such a hype especially amongst the working crowd in the area. CBD IS HAPPENING TOO!    Quickly, the queue has formed with longer queue times as the days go by. I went on a Wednesday at 1pm and the waiting time was 15 mins, better than I expected. Then on Thursday, it became 40 mins. I'm not sure how long it'll be in the days to come. But if you all agree with me, the perpetual queue is a good sign too!    The cosy outlet has about 6-7 tables and some counter seats so I reckon it can hold up to 20 pax at each time.
